July's post - V thru Z

V – Did you hear that they’re remaking the mini-series “V” from the 1980s into a series on TV?
Weather – Here’s the local weather for where I live.
Xylophones – Here’s the Wikipedia entry for xylophones:
Youtube video of the month – I love this video from OK GO:
Zoos – The St. Louis Zoo is free! Did you know that?

July's post - L thru U

Lady Luck – Yes, these people are DEFINITELY lucky!!

Music – I listen to this station any chance I get:

News – I love CNN.

Oscar Watch – I haven’t seen a movie in the last month. However, I hope to the latest Harry Potter before I leave for Egypt. Everyone I’ve talked with said they like it but they wanted more. Since I haven’t read the books, I’ll probably enjoy the movie more than them because I’ll have nothing to compare it to.

Pictures – Here’s a link to some of the pictures that my sister took in California this April. I also took some pictures, but I left my camera in an airport or on a plane at the end of the trip. GRRR!!!!!

Quote of the month - “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain

Restaurant Review - For my birthday tonight, I had China Star down the street from me. The cashier was helpful, as he knew what I was going to have before I ordered (“The usual?” he asked. “Yes”, I said, deflated from how predictable I had become”). My General Tsao’s chicken with white rice, an egg roll and a crab Rangoon was done in the normal amount of time. I took my bag, walked the 5 minutes home and started on my meal. First thing, I discarded the crab Rangoon. Most people would say that is blasphemous, but I do not like crab rangoons. I’m sure they were good. The egg roll, however, I ate with gusto. Very crusty, not too much filling, but just enough crunchiness and filling to be delicious when combined with the General’s chicken sauce and rice. The chicken was spicy, just the way I like it. The chicken was a little tough, and it probably could’ve been spicier, as my sinuses didn’t get cleared out. But still, it was very good!

Sports – I am in volleyball through our recreational league at work. It’s been a good workout, but Wednesdays sometimes get crazy! 6 games in one night! We play on the hardcourts with 6 people and in the sand with 4 people. Tomorrow is one of those crazy nights! I usually bring a new shirt to change into between games because I sweat. A lot. But it’s fun!

Television – Torchwood! The Children of Earth is showing on BBC America this week. One of my friends knows someone who downloaded the UK version, so I’m going to walk the first 3 episodes tonight! I can’t wait. Other shows I’m watching: The Closer, Amazing Grace, and I might watch some Big Brother (if there is ABSOLUTELY nothing else on). On a side note: My cable company did something to my lower channels, and now 3-22 do not come in very well. I’m going to have to complain. I hate to complain. It makes me nervous and anxious.

US National Parks – I’ve been here and LOVED it!!

July's post - A thru K

Actors/Actresses – Sandra Bullock is AWESOME!!! Definitely my favorite actress. Funny, drop dead gorgeous, smart. Seems very down-to-earth. Not sure I have enough tattoos for her, though J

Benny’s Blog – Benny the Chicken started out as a prop in a murder mystery party I did with some friends. Soon afterwards, he got his own. See what (and where!) Benny is up to!

Comics – Savage Chicken is forwarded to me on a frequent basis by one of my co-workers (Chris Clark! Look at that! He fits into this category, too!). Thought I would pass on some of the insanity!

Dr. Who – I never did watch the early versions of Dr. Who, because I didn’t watch a lot of British TV on PBS growing up. However, I have been TOTALLY sucked into the reboot that BBC has done within the last few years. My favorite season is Season 2, followed closely by Season 4. I’m looking forward to the next Dr. Who special “The Waters of Mars”. Looks incredibly creepy!

E-mail loop – On occasion, my friends (and occasionally co-workers) will get a string of e-mails going during the course of a day. I call them “e-mail loops”. On those days, I don’t get a whole lot of work done. However, they are very entertaining. I’ll include one (once I figure out how to get them on the web, because they would take up a ton of space on this blog!)

Family/Friends – It’s been a good week for family and friends. My mom and stepdad visited and left this morning. My brother texted me “Happy Birthday” a day early and my dad left a voicemail this morning wishing me happy birthday. I had a good version and a very bad (but fun) version of Happy Birthday sang to me today by co-workers. All in all, a good birthday. Nobody pushed all the buttons in the right order this month. Thus, everyone lives.

Good Grief! – Normally, I would have something to be exasperated about. However, it’s been a good month up to today, so no complaining! I’m sure I’ll have something next month.

Happiness is … Four bags of Oreos for your birthday.

International Traveler – In 10 days, I will be on my way to Egypt. I’ve been overseas, but only to places where they speak English. And it’s going to be hot! However, how cool will it be to see the Pyramids, ride a camel, cruise the Nile, and float in a hot air balloon over the Valley of the Kings? I cannot wait!

Just John – That’s me, in case you were wondering. So far, this has been a good month. I’ve had some motivational issues with work, but I’m working through those. Hopefully Egypt will recharge me! I’m also hoping to prove my friends (Kathy and Chris) wrong by keeping up with this blog! We’ll see … I guess that wasn’t really a whole lot about me, was it? I’ll think of something for next time (or I’ll have a story to tell!)

Knowledge is Power – And power is good! Your random fact for the month: A pregnant goldfish is called a twit.)
